Continuous Beeping/Boot Loop

HSRF-202: Continuous Beeping/Boot Loop

Overview: The continuous beep you are experiencing is due to a missing file on your reader. With every beep, the reader is searching for the file that is missing. Follow the steps below to ensure that all files are properly installed on your device.

Step 1

Hold down the top white button and plug into your computer. Continue holding down the button for 5-8 seconds until you hear a beep, then release. The button should now flash green.

Step 2

Does your computer have CortexTools installed? If not, please download here and follow the on-screen set-up wizard to install onto your computer.

Step 3

Once you have CortexTools, you’ll need to download the latest firmware to begin our software reboot.

Please download the latest firmware here and save onto your computer in a location you can remember.

Step 4

Now let’s open CortexTools and install the firmware on your device. When you open CortexTools, you’ll be prompted to enable USB HID mode. (See picture below)

When this message appears, click “yes”.

Step 5

Locate the “Open File” button in the upper left of CortexTools and select the firmware file you previously downloaded.

Step 6

Then find the “Download” button in the upper right of CortexTools and click to begin the download.

This will take a few minutes.

Step 7

Once that’s complete, click here to download your C208 software. Please save to the same location as the firmware you previously installed on your computer.

Step 8

Relocate the “Open File” button in the upper left of CortexTools and select the C208 software file you just downloaded.

Step 9

Then find the “Download” button in the upper right of CortexTools and click to begin the download.

This will take a few minutes.

Step 10

Once the download is complete, close out of CortexTools and scan the barcode below. The scanner will beep twice in rapid succession, then it will beep once more after a brief pause after scanning the barcode. After you hear those three beeps, move onto Step 11.

Step 11

Once that is complete, scan the barcode below.

Step 12

The issue should now be corrected! Test by opening “Notepad” on your computer and scanning the barcode on a driver’s license. The output should look similar to this:
